How conversion works

The Gregorian calendar follows fixed solar rules; the Hijri calendar is lunar, with months of 29 or 30 days. There is no fixed offset between them, so conversion needs a table of when each Hijri month begins. We use Umm al-Qura, the calendar used for civil purposes in Saudi Arabia, as provided by the ICU library in modern browsers, and we test the round trip for every day from 1300 to 1600 AH.

Moon sighting vs Umm al-Qura

According to Umm al-Qura, Ramadan 1447 AH begins on 18 February 2026 and has 30 days, and the Hijri year 1448 begins on 16 June 2026. Official announcements for Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah follow moon sighting and may differ by a day.

Month table

Each conversion shows the full month on the calendar you entered, with the matching date on the other calendar and the weekday for every day; Fridays and Saturdays are dimmed. Step through months to plan around Ramadan or the Hijri year end.

Examples

Hijri Gregorian Weekday
26 Dhu al-Qadah 1419 AH 15 March 1999 Monday
24 Ramadan 1420 AH 1 January 2000 Saturday
1 Ramadan 1447 AH 18 February 2026 Wednesday

Limitations

Conversion is exact within 1300–1600 AH; outside it results are approximate. Dates on older documents may follow local moon sighting and differ by a day. For official matters, the date on the document prevails. To calculate your age in Hijri directly, use the Hijri Age Calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Hijri date to Gregorian?

Choose “Hijri”, enter the day, month and year, and the matching Gregorian date appears instantly with its weekday.

Why do Ramadan and Eid sometimes differ from the calendar?

The start of Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah is officially announced after moon sighting and can be a day earlier or later than Umm al-Qura. Use the calendar for planning and the official announcement as final.

What range is supported?

Conversion is exact from 1300 to 1600 AH (roughly 12 November 1882 to 25 November 2174). Gregorian dates outside that range are converted with the arithmetic Hijri calendar and labelled approximate.

Does a Hijri month have 29 or 30 days?

It varies by month and year. The month table shows the length of the selected Hijri month, and the tool rejects day 30 in a 29-day month.
