How the countdown works
- Find the next occurrence: if this year’s date (Hijri or Gregorian, depending on the occasion) has passed, use next year’s.
- Count down to midnight at the start of that day, Riyadh time.
- Show whole days, then hours, minutes and seconds, updated every second.
Example: on 23 September 2026 there were 138 days to the start of Ramadan 1448 (8 February 2027) and 152 days to Founding Day (22 February 2027).
Why Ramadan and Eid can move by a day
Umm al-Qura is calculated in advance, but the start of Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah is announced after moon sighting, so those cards carry a “subject to moon sighting” label. Use the countdown for planning and the official announcement as final. See The Umm al-Qura calendar explained.
